In September 2015, under the auspices of Ignite The Youth (An international society of youth activists in Africa), We conducted a survey on the relationship between Youth and the African Union. The online based Public Opinion poll received 832 respondents from 24 African States.
So what do young Africans think about the African Union? How do they rate the institution's perceived performance? The results recorded in this report indicate that a large section of the African population believes the African Union is important for young people and that it is capable of addressing their issues. However, a similarly large majority express discontent at the AU’s efforts to “empower” and “engage” the Youth. Furthermore, the institution was perceived to have failed the African youth by 67% of our respondents, and received an overall public rating of 3.2 out of 10.

Great initiative. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteHopefully the findings here will invoke critical introspection by the African Union as an institution. It's obvious that people want more and expect more, but also feel quite let down. That's of course the majority of all who responded...
